Local children from across South London turn up for Sportshall Athletics Competitions

More than 50 primary school children took part in two Sportshall Athletics competitions during March at the new indoor sports facility at Harris Academy, Beckenham organised by the Kent London Athletics Network.

Participants aged between 8 – 11 years old competed against other children from their own school age group over six different events covering running, jumping and throwing. Gold medals were awarded to the best boy and girl all rounder in each age group. Cheered on by their enthusiastic parents, siblings and friends, the children were kept active for whole two hours of friendly, but competitive competition. On one of the evenings there was even time to hold a couple of parent’s races!

The organizers would like to express their thanks to the voluntary officials and young leaders who give up their Friday evenings to ensure that the events were well run.

With the continued support of the Harris Academy, Beckenham, the Kent London Athletics Network hope to build on this year’s successful events by holding Sportshall leagues throughout the 2012/13 winter months.
